ITS for network control

Today: Service you can verify. Tomorrow: A network you can scale.

Your network without the guesswork

As bus networks grow, staying across day-to-day operations gets harder. Routes expand, more operators come into play, and services become more complex to manage in real time. Trapeze ITS connects buses, drivers and control centres, giving transport authorities a live view of what is happening across services. Understand what ran, how services performed, and how delivery compares across every depot and operator.

ITS only works if everyone works together

ITS doesn’t just depend on the system. It depends on operators, agencies, regulators and, in many cities, informal transport providers working together.

In many African cities, systems are introduced while the bus network is still being built or formalised. Processes, roles and responsibilities are still taking shape at the same time.

If that coordination isn’t in place early, the system is in place but not fully used – making it harder to manage services as the network grows.

Track performance as it unfolds

Introducing seven controls for service delivery and contract review.

Verified service delivery

Compare scheduled and operated trips in real time

On-time performance tracking

Monitor delays, headways and disruptions

Mileage and subsidy validation

Record operated kilometres for contract payment review

Multi-operator performance view

View performance across routes and depots in one system

Real-time passenger information

Publish accurate arrival times based on live bus data

Electric bus rollout

Track battery status and charging activity across fleets

Service records you can stand behind

Trapeze ITS captures service data as buses operate, not weeks later. Fleet, fare and timetable data feed into the same record, so performance reports and payment reviews are based on a single source.

Working from the same data reduces disputes, speeds up reconciliation and supports contract review across operators and depots. The result is fewer disputes over reported figures and more consistent oversight across operations. You can see exactly what was delivered and what should be paid.

Network change rarely happens all at once. Fleets are replaced gradually, depots expand and new corridors come online. But services still need to run. Trapeze ITS can be introduced corridor by corridor or depot by depot, so implementation can be phased without losing control of live operations.

Each phase is installed, monitored and validated before the next begins. As each phase goes live, changes happen within day-to-day operations. That removes the need for a network-wide switchover.

New and existing buses operate in the same system. Open standards such as ITxPT, VDV, GTFS and SIRI connect to existing on-board equipment, so you avoid parallel systems and forced fleet replacement.

Your network, connected end to end

Trapeze ITS brings together seven connected functions that support day-to-day service, payments and network growth.

Track every vehicle live across your services.

Problems are visible early, so your control teams don’t have to piece together what’s happening. They can see how services, drivers and controllers are performing in real time and deal with delays before they spread.

Give passengers real-time arrival information they trust.

Turn disconnected systems into one connected network.

Get systems working together behind the scenes.

Highlight where time, cost and effort are going.

Avoid running out of charge mid-service.

Local expertise.
Proven delivery.

Trapeze works alongside public transport authorities across Africa, with consultants and technical teams based in the region. Teams understand the funding constraints, governance structures and operational realities that shape bus networks. Implementation is practical, phased and grounded in local operating conditions, with ongoing support after rollout to keep systems running smoothly. In Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Trapeze ITS supports SOTRA’s 2300-bus network serving more than 1.5 million passengers each day.

What authorities say

Our real-time monitoring system, powered by Trapeze's ITS, is at the heart of our operations. It provides us with the real-time visibility we need to respond to traffic conditions, efficiently manage our fleet, and keep passengers informed at every stage. This has significantly improved the reliability and punctuality of our bus fleet, enabling us to meet the transport needs of more than 1 million passengers. With this system, we are not simply operating buses — we are delivering smarter, safer, and more reliable public transport and a better passenger experience in Abidjan.
